Tight Security At Boston Calling Festival

Security is much tighter for the Boston Calling festival’s at the new Charles River venue. This year marks as the eighth year for the event, formerly in the downtown, but the terrorist attack in Manchester, England, on Monday is causing the event planners to increase their security.

Christina Demerict, a concert goer said that she has seen plenty of police at the event venue.

“We’ve already been by 15-20 cops and there was just a dog that was out here. So I feel a little more comfortable than I normally would be,” said Demerict.

Many people are trying to stay positive. Mack Collins said that he was concerned.

Although it is taking an extra time, Jay Caduallader, a music fan understands the necessary measures for the event.

A noticeable presence of the Boston police can be seen both inside and outside of the facility.

Boston police are taking bicycle patrols all along the location of Charles River.

The increased security measures include the metal detectors and also bans on backpacks. All the bags are being searched and also that has caused longer lines. However, one event staff member said that the people are taking it in stride.

“Everybody just buttons down a little more and takes some increased security measures. The show goes on,” said the staffer.

William Evans, the Boston Police Commissioner said that, he is not aware of any specific threats against the Boston Calling. However, his department is increasing the security for 40,000 people per a day, which is expected at the event.

The first seven Boston Calling festivals were held at the City Hall Plaza. The new location is near the Harvard Stadium and also at the banks of the Charles River.

This year’s gala is three days long with 45 musical acts on three stages.
