Apple is getting ready to launch another iPhone software update, coinciding with new product announcements planned for early March. MacRumors' website data, which often predicts future releases, shows that Apple has started testing iOS 26.3.1 internally. This suggests the update will be available to users soon. This software version will likely be a small update, primarily fixing issues and improving security rather than adding new functions. Usually, once testing activity appears in public logs, these updates are released quickly, probably within the next two weeks. This puts iOS 26.3.1 between iOS 26.3, released earlier this month, and the more significant iOS 26.4 update, expected in late March or early April. While iOS 26.4 is predicted to bring major changes to services like Apple Music, Podcasts, and CarPlay, the upcoming 26.3.1 release might be a small update to keep iPhones running smoothly before a busy period of new product launches.

Apple did something similar last month with iOS 26.2.1, which fixed problems and quietly added support for new devices, including the second-generation AirTag. Because of this, some believe that iOS 26.3.

This could also involve internal preparations for products Apple is anticipated to release soon. However, this remains unconfirmed, and Apple has not discussed what the update includes. This software work coincides with reports that the company plans three days of announcements from March 2nd to March 4th. Rather than a typical keynote speech, Apple intends to inform specific reporters at an “Apple Experience” event in New York, London, and Shanghai, with hands-on demonstrations set for March 4th. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that the upcoming announcements might feature at least five new items across hardware, software, and chips, even without a main presentation. Products thought to be close to release include a new, cheaper MacBook, updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with Apple’s next-generation chips, refreshed iPads, and potentially a new Studio Display.

Gurman suggests that a new basic MacBook is quite probable, referencing color hints in Apple's event designs that match previous reports. He also observed that some current Apple Store products, like the iPhone 16e and certain Mac and iPad models, have low stock, which usually happens before new hardware is released. At present, iOS 26.3.1 seems to be a minor yet well-timed update, serving as a temporary fix between major software releases while Apple prepares for new product introductions.
