Volkswagen India has introduced the refreshed Taigun in the market, with prices beginning at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This updated midsize SUV features a wide array of enhancements in design, capabilities, and technology, while still keeping its original engine setup. The new Volkswagen Taigun comes in various trims, with prices starting from Rs 10.99 lakh for the Comfortline MT up to Rs 19.29 lakh for the GT Plus Sport DSG. The selection includes Comfortline, Highline, Highline-Plus, GT Line, Topline, and GT Plus variants, available in both manual and automatic transmissions. Additionally, Volkswagen has introduced a guaranteed buyback plan offering up to 75 percent of the ex-showroom price as residual value for ownership of up to three years or 30,000km (certain conditions apply). This offer is valid for bookings made until May 31, 2026, and aims to ease long-term ownership worries and enhance resale confidence.
The most noticeable updates are at the front, where the Taigun now sports a more streamlined and contemporary look inspired by Volkswagen's global SUV style. A narrower grille is paired with redesigned LED headlights linked by a light bar and features an illuminated VW logo. From the side view, the shape remains recognizable, but new 17-inch glossy black alloy wheels bring a fresh element. At the back, new LED taillights with sequential indicators, a modified bumper, and a lit badge add to the SUV's premium look. The GT versions maintain their distinct blacked-out aesthetics. Inside, the cabin keeps its basic arrangement but features updated materials, upholstery, and two-tone color schemes. Major improvements consist of a larger 10.25-inch digital driver display and an upgraded 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with better graphics and AI-assisted voice features. Volkswagen has also included a panoramic sunroof, a long-awaited addition for this segment. Other features include ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, wireless smartphone integration, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and an enhanced air-conditioning system.
From a mechanical standpoint, the Taigun continues to use its current turbo-petrol engine choices. The 1.0-liter TSI delivers 115bhp and 178Nm, while the 1.5-liter TSI offers 150bhp and 250Nm. A significant change is the new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-liter engine, replacing the old 6-speed model. A manual transmission is still available. The 1.5-liter engine keeps the 7-speed DSG automatic and now has rear disc brakes. Volkswagen also claims about a six percent improvement in efficiency for the 1.0 TSI. Safety remains a strong suit for the Taigun, offering standard features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold assist, and ISOFIX mounts. The SUV maintains its 5-star safety rating, appealing to buyers who prioritize safety.
The revamped Volkswagen Taigun faces stiff competition in the bustling midsize SUV market against vehicles like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Renault Duster. With an expanded feature set, fresh design, and the introduction of a new automatic gearbox, Volkswagen aims to bolster the Taigun’s standing in one of India's most fiercely competitive segments.
