The findings of the study revealed that around three percent of the total population in the United States consisted of unauthorized immigrants, amounting to approximately 10.5 million individuals. Furthermore, these unauthorized immigrants accounted for 22 percent of the foreign-born population. According to the research, the number of unauthorized immigrants from countries other than Mexico has experienced a significant increase, reaching 6.4 million in 2021, which is 900,000 more than the figures from 2017. The study also highlighted substantial growth in the number of unauthorized immigrants from various regions worldwide between 2007 and 2021. Notably, Central America saw an increase of 240,000 individuals, while South and East Asia experienced a rise of 180,000 individuals.

Based on data provided by the US Customs and Border Protection, a substantial number of undocumented Indian immigrants have been crossing the US borders on foot. From October 2022 to September 2023, a total of 6,917 Indians were either apprehended, expelled, or denied entry due to their lack of proper documentation. The number of undocumented Indians in the US witnessed a significant surge following the opening of the borders amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In the 2021 fiscal year, there were 30,662 encounters, which increased to 63,927 in the 2022 fiscal year. This year, there have been a total of 97,000 encounters, with 30,010 occurring at the Canadian border and 41,770 at the Southern border.
