The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has been investigating an Escherichia coli outbreak associated with the consumption of ground beef.
The health officials have informed that people in the state have been affected with the same strain of E. coli after eating ground beef since 12th June. Those who ate the round beef at different spots, became sick. The officials have been looking into identifying the specific source of the ground beef.
Health officials informed that the outbreak did’nt present a risk to New Hampshire residents as long as they cook their ground beef to a temperature of at least 160 degrees. Anyone ho prepared the ground beef are advised to wash their hands counters and utensils thoroughly after touching the meat.
Marcella Bobinsky, acting director at the Division of Public Health Services said, “Ground beef is a known source of E. coli, and it is important for people to avoid eating under-cooked ground beef whether at home or at a restaurant. Young children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to severe illness with this infection,” E. coli causes severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, vomit and a mild fever. In most of the cases people recover within a week. If the worst situation occurs, infections can lead to life-threatening issues.
