A Massachusetts-based company is planning to initiate a ride-hailing service for only women, where all the drivers and customers are women.
Former Uber driver in Boston is expected to launch 'Chariot for Women', a women-based driving service nationwide on April 19.
The company’s website said that, “Chariot was born to ensure safety, comfort and pleasure as well as giving back to female-focused charities and foundations through our transportation services.” A percentage of profits will also be given back to women’s foundations, it added.
“One thought kept coming up in his head, ‘What if I was a woman?’ “Just one bad apple behind the wheel, and those women would not be safe at all. 3 a.m. in Boston is a candy store for predators,” the website said.
Founder Michael Pelletz said that, the fares of the Chariot for Women service will be comparable to competitors like Uber and Lyft, but without the surge pricing. Earlier, the company aimed to employ 1,000 drivers by launch, but the number has climbed to 4,000 after an “overwhelming response,” he said.
Charlton, Massachusetts based, Pelletz said that, he plans for Chariot for Women to “have offices very soon in every major city across the country.”
