$1.8M in grants was granted for recreational trails by State

The State has announced $1.8million grants to build and improve recreational trails across the state. This announcement has erupted celebrations throughout Massachusetts hikers, bikers etc.

Grants allowed for 49 projects last week will be used to build 10 miles of new trails, repair and improve more than 150 miles of existing trails. Improvements include Trail drainage, surfacing and soil erosion control; signage and kiosks.

They also include the purchase of trail maintenance equipment and making trails fully accessible. The largest grant is given to the towns of Abington and Rockland. These funds are used to fund the second phase of a project aimed at expanding and improving the Hanover Branch Rail Line. The Savoy Kanary Kats Snowmobile club is getting a grant of $166,000 to fund the purchase of new trail grooming machine.
