India's Ministry of External Affairs summoned a high-ranking diplomat from the German Embassy on Saturday to express its discontent over Germany's remarks regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In a statement, a spokesperson for Germany's foreign affairs expressed hope that Kejriwal's case would be handled in accordance with principles of an independent judiciary and basic democratic values. The spokesperson emphasized that like anyone facing accusations, Kejriwal is entitled to a fair and unbiased trial, including the use of all available legal means without any restrictions.

The spokesperson stressed the importance of the presumption of innocence as a fundamental aspect of the rule of law that should be extended to Kejriwal. In response to the German foreign ministry's spokesperson's comments, India summoned Georg Enzweiler, the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy, and lodged a forceful protest, denouncing the remarks as interference in its judicial process. India asserted that such comments undermine the independence of its judiciary and considered them as infringing upon its internal affairs. India emphasized that it is a flourishing and resilient democracy that upholds the rule of law.

The legal process will proceed accordingly in this particular matter, both within the country and in other democratic nations. It is important to avoid making biased assumptions based on this information. The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a case related to money laundering connected to the excise policy. The arrest occurred after the Delhi High Court rejected the AAP national convenor's request for protection from coercive actions by the central probe agency. The case involves allegations of corruption and money laundering in the development and implementation of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was subsequently canceled.
