A suspect in 2010 murder was tracked down by the members of Boston Police Fugitive Unit in Dominican Republic and arrested him on early Friday, said the authorities.
31-year-old Charlie Brea, was charged in the murder of 25-year-old Luis Montanez, which happened nearly seven years ago. Investigators believe that the slaying may be drug related.
Montanez was shot to death on 23rd October, 2010, on the Blue Hill Avenue outside the Breezeway Bar, said the police.
A Boston police spokesman said that Brea was apprehended after the Fugitive Unit and also US Marshals conducted a surveillance in the Dominican Republic.
Brea was wanted on the Roxbury court warrant and a Suffolk Superior Court indictment on the murder charge. Boston police worked with the Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office on the investigation of case.
Brea was flown on Friday morning to Boston and later will face arraignment in the Suffolk Superior Court.
“My detectives never consider any case ‘cold,’ and they’ll leave no stone unturned in order to find a suspect who is attempting to avoid capture. We intend to bring the suspect to justice for the victim’s family,” said the Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans.
