Advisory Issued For Quick Moving Storm

Winter weather advisory  have been posted for Boston and much of the eastern Massachusetts as a quick moving storm will mix with cold air and bring several inches of snow. The advisory, which goes through 10 a.m. on  Thursday, includes the Boston metro area as well as the Route 3 and 128 corridors and the eastern coast of Massachusetts, including the Cape Cod.

During the evening hours the rain  will change over to snow. Moderate to heavy snow will continue overnight through the time of the Thursday morning commute.

Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon said that, "a period of snow moves across the area overnight. Heavier bands of snow as the storm gets energized to the north and east may linger into the first part of morning before we dry the things out."

Moderate to heavy snow will quickly accumulate along the area roadways making for slick and hazardous travel. Visibility will be reduced at time down to a quarter mile or less within the heavier snow bands.

By the time the moisture to the south gets involved, the storm will be in a position to impact the Maine instead of southern New England.

Boston is above the average for snowfall at this point in the season. The city's official measurement of snowfall so far is 34.6 inches and the average is 28.2 inches.
