Boston:
Boston police on Tuesday alerted elderly inhabitants of Boston to watch out for callers posing as Internal Revenue Service agents pursuing a rash of phone extortion scam reports.

In a statement police said, they have received several complaints relative to an aggressive phone scam targeting elderly community members. Callers were spoofing a Boston Police Department non-emergency phone number and threatening to arrest people for not paying taxes. While these dangerous and cunning con artists can sound convincing and credible, they are far from it.

The statement noted the IRS will never ask taxpayers, demanding immediate payments or threatening to arrest people for failure to pay taxes.

Police advise anyone who thinks they are being scammed to call the police or the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.
